Charlie Thomas Joins NISCO's Board of Directors
FAIRFAX, VA – June 1, 2004 – Charlie Thomas joins the board of directors of NISCO. NISCO, the “Impacting Your Bottom Line” company, announced today that Charlie Thomas, founder of Claris Capital and former Chairman and CEO of Net2000, has joined its Board of Directors.
Mr. Thomas has over 17 years of industry experience. Prior to founding Net2000, he served in sales and marketing positions with IBM and Bell Atlantic. In 1995, Mr. Thomas also co-founded, grew and sold N2N Communications (an Internet provider) which became part of Verio, and also sold Net2000's Professional Services Division to GTCR-backed Vista Information Technology. Mr. Thomas serves on several corporate boards, and has also served on President Bush's Technology Advisory Board. Mr. Thomas is also active in several charitable organizations including Child Help, Women's Angel Network and National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Mr. Thomas is author of a book "Entrepreneur: A CEO's Lessons in American Capitalism" which is scheduled to be published in the spring of 2004. Mr. Thomas has been a featured speaker at many universities and industry events including Harvard, Georgetown, Virginia School of Law, George Mason and Virginia Tech.
"Charlie is an innovative thinker and tremendous proponent for telecommunications technology solutions," said NISCO's CEO Sundeep Sanghavi. "I believe his leadership and experience will be invaluable as NISCO works to promote new processes andnew technologies around telecommunications spend management."
Prior to founding Claris Capital in 2002, Mr. Thomas served as founder, Chairman and CEO of Net2000 Communications. Mr. Thomas led Net2000 through rapid growth, as the company evolved from a small, private sales agent in 1993, to a publicly-traded competitive broadband services provider with over 1,000 employees, more than 3,000 customers, and recurring revenues in excess of $150 million in 2001. Net2000's market capitalization reached $1.7 billion at its IPO. Net2000's clients included AOL, Newsweek, Lockheed Martin, Johns Hopkins, and EMC as the company's average revenue per customer was the best in the CLEC industry. After starting with less than $100,000 in capital, Mr. Thomas raised over $800 million in working capital and negotiated over $1.0 billion in transactions, including an IPO led by Goldman Sachs which raised $230 million. As public CLECs declined, Mr. Thomas managed the sale of Net2000 to Cavalier Telephone in January 2002.
